How Therapy at EGJ Works
Starting therapy can feel like a big step.
Whether you’re seeking support as an individual or as a couple, it’s natural to have questions about what to expect. My goal is to make the process as transparent and comfortable as possible so that you can focus on what matters most: the work we do together.
Getting Started
Schedule a Consultation
The first step is reaching out for a free consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and determine whether I may be a good fit for your needs.
If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule your first session and I’ll send the necessary intake paperwork through a secure client portal.
Finding Us
Online Therapy Throughout North Carolina
I provide secure virtual therapy for individuals and couples located anywhere in North Carolina.
Online therapy offers flexibility and convenience while allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own space.
For the best experience, I recommend attending sessions from a private location with a reliable internet connection.
What to Expect in Individual Therapy
Your first few sessions will focus on understanding your story, your relationships, your strengths, and the concerns that brought you to therapy.
Together, we’ll identify goals and begin exploring the patterns, experiences, and beliefs that may be contributing to your current challenges.
As therapy progresses, sessions may include reflection, exploration of emotions and relationships, identifying recurring patterns, and developing new ways of responding to life’s challenges.
There is no “right” way to do therapy. Our work will be tailored to your unique needs and goals.
What to Expect in Couples Therapy
In couples therapy, my role is not to determine who is right or wrong.
Instead, we’ll work together to understand the interaction patterns that may be creating conflict, distance, or frustration within your relationship.
Early sessions focus on understanding your relationship history, identifying strengths, and clarifying goals for therapy. From there, we’ll explore communication patterns, emotional experiences, and opportunities for greater understanding and connection.
My goal is to create a space where both partners feel heard, respected, and engaged in the process.
Setting Goals and Measuring Progress
Therapy looks different for everyone.
Some clients come with clear goals, while others simply know that something needs to change. Both are completely okay.
Together, we’ll identify goals that feel meaningful to you and periodically revisit them throughout our work. Progress may involve symptom relief, improved relationships, greater self-understanding, increased confidence, or movement toward a more fulfilling life.
How Long Does Therapy Take?
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline.
Some clients seek therapy for support through a specific challenge and attend for a shorter period of time. Others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and create lasting change.
The length of therapy depends on your goals, the concerns you’re bringing, and your preferences.
Fees, Insurance, and Payment
I am in-network with Aetna and can provide superbills for potential reimbursement from other insurance companies.
Many clients choose to pay privately because it allows for greater confidentiality and flexibility in treatment. Payment is due at the time of service.
If you have questions about fees, payment options, or out-of-network reimbursement, I would be happy to discuss them during our consultation.
Follow-Up Sessions
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish consistency.
As progress is made, some clients choose to transition to biweekly or less frequent sessions. We’ll regularly discuss what’s working and determine a schedule that best supports your goals.
Feeling Ready?
If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation. I’d be happy to answer your questions and help you determine whether working together feels like the right next step.
